First prize in the Svanholm Singers Composition Award


Excerpt from press release, October 11, 2012:

The jury (...) scored 46 contributions from five parts of the world, but the winner turned out to be from Sweden. Christian Engquist (...) received the 1st prize, consisting of € 5 000 and publishing by Gehrmans Musikförlag.

I am incredibly happy for the award, not least since it is an indication that I, with my words and music, got the message through, that I wanted to bring forward, Christian Engquist says. Early in the process I had a clear, dark vision, which felt more and more compelling and urgent the further I devoted to the task. In my piece we are moved to a future in which the earth lies desert and mankind has driven itself into extinction. However, the burned soil summons our souls back, for us to see what we have done, we, as victims as well as perpetrators.
